The Terrans have signature units like the Marine, Siege Tank, and Battlecruiser. Playing Terran has a higher learning curve because it has the most diverse upgrades and unique abilities for each unit in Starcraft 2. Because there are more upgrades and choices, StarCraft 2 Terran strategies are the most diverse. Overall, Terran relies on defensive strategy. This is compensated for its army's lack of mobility. In the hands of a skilled player with diverse strategies and speed, Terran mechanical or bionic play is very powerful. Please check out the strategies and Commentary section for demonstration.

The Zerg swarm, lead by Kerrigan in StarCraft 2, is an expansive race. Their signature units include Zerglings, Queen and Ultralisk. The Units of the Zerg race are relatively weak by itself and also cheaper compared to Terran and Protoss, but the battle can easily tilt in your favor with an larger force and better positioning. Most Starcraft 2 Zerg strategies relie heavily on high action-per-minute (APM) macro-economics because of its expansive style.

The Mighty Protoss, as many people call it, is a very versatile and powerful race. Its signature units are Zealots, High Templars, Carriers and the Mothership. Units of the Protoss race are strong but expensive. Similiar to the play style of the Orc Horde in the WarCraft 3 universe, The Protoss player needs to be good with both macro and micro-economics gameplay to master all the Starcraft 2 Protoss Strategies. Simliar to StarCraft classic, Protoss is an easy race to start but a hard race to master.
