Marauder a Terran unit

The Marauder is a new Terran unit in Starcraft 2 that changes many dynamics of the game. Terran players can now start the game with more aggressive strategies such as the 10 barracks marauder push or marine marauder rush. In this article, I will talk about some of the pros and cons of Marauders and end with different Terran Strategies for marauders.

Advantages

  1. Marauders are cheap and easy to get for their performance.
  2. Stimpack and Concussive Shell upgrade allows Marauders to be viable mid to late game.
  3. Marauders counter other early range units like Stalkers and Roaches.
  4. Marauders can snipe buildings and expensive units with focus fire and stimpack.

Disadvantages

  1. Marauders are not as effective against light units
  2. It is hard to transition out of Marauder tech because upgrading them is expensive.
  3. Air units counter marauders.

[Marauder Strategies]

Marauder Strategy in a Terran Stack:

Marauder is a really good support unit for any Terran Strategy and Army composition. Marauders have a lot of hit point for the cost. Comparing a Marauder with a Siege Tank, 125 HP compared to 160HP for only 100 minerals and 25 gas compared to 150minerals and 125 gas. That is a huge HP to cost ratio which makes marauder a really good damage soaker. In addition, Marauder does a really good job slowing down incoming melee units like roaches, zerglings and zealots. This allows your marines and any long range units to do additional damage before they can reach you. In addition, you can even kite melee units with concussive shell.

Marauder Kiting Strategy:

Marauder's concussive shell can be used to kite the enemy. The upgrade slows the enemy by 50% for 3 seconds. This is a huge time gap to take advantage of especially against slow moving units like zealot and roaches. In addition, this is even more effective when your marauder count is equal to the enemies because you can slow the entire army.

Aggressive Marauder push:

Marauders are a great early unit for defense and offense simply they are cost effective. They perform really well in any Terran army composition. If you can get early marauders out like using the 10 barracks aggressive marauder build order, you can really put a lot of pressure on your opponent. Marauders, once concussive shell upgrade finishes, counter most melee units and armored units.
