@OneManZerg Game 2 notes got cut.

Wow, that is incredible for Jinro. Noone would have guessed him to beat MC twice. MC is probably the best sc2 player, definitely the best protoss in PvT, and in the last GSL where Jinro showed he was probably the best terran out there... MC made jinro look pathetic by easily beating him 4-0 in the semis.

Kind of sad that the 2 foreigners (non-koreans) have to play in the round of 8 (Jinro vs IdrA), but at least it guarantees that a foreigner will make the semis which is really unheard of.

I would normally root for idra, but I just have incredible respect for jinro even though he's a dirty terran.

Whoever wins I just want them to beat some more koreans afterwards. Foreigners represent.

Ketroc, here's game 2 recap. I don't know why it's getting cut but sorry about that.

Game 2 was between Jinro and MarineKing and on Xel'Naga caverns. Jinro opened with a never before seen Terran build and had everyone curious. He was able to get in fast hellion harass followed quickly by cloaked banshees. Doing some damage to marine king but not much as marine king was mostly ready with bunkers to thwart the hellions and was able to push out the banshee before losing too many scvs. Jinro then transitioned into a tank/marine/marauder build with a balance of vikings and banshees for aerial support. Jinro worked his way towards marineking's base with a most impressive TvT push where his banshees pushed back tank lines while his vikings thwarted the opponent vikings from hitting his banshees and using perfect tank distance pushing with his tanks. When Jinro was almost all the way to MarineKing's base and it seemed inevitable that he would push into the natural expansion MarineKing picked up 3 medivacs full of marines and dropped Jinro's base. Jinro, completely naked at home had no counter for the marines in his base and gg'd. A sad ending to what was a brilliant TvT push toppled only by a last ditch effort of drops. MarineKing wins. MarineKing (1-0), Jinro (0-1)

      Round of 8 Day 1

      1-17-2011 Matches - The Round of 8 begins !

Today's matches featured 4 of the final 8 players, those included:
IMNestea a Zerg vs. ChoyafOu a Protoss
IMMvp a Terran vs. TSL Trickster

SPOILER ALERT: RESULTS ARE BELOW ! !

Also, now that we are in the top 8 the format changes from round robin to best of 5.

      IMNestea (Zerg) vs. ChoyafOu (Protoss)
Game 1 is on Scrap Station. IMNestea opens with a fast expansion and ChoyafOu sets up a wall in to fast expand himself. ChoyafOu then techs to Void Rays and IMNestea seeing one Void Ray gets spore crawlers at his main, expo and ramp. ChoyafOu then quickly builds 4 warp gates and hides them on the upper ramp near his natural expansion. With a force of 4 zealots, stalkers, sentries a phoenix and a Void Ray choya moves out to Nestea's base. Nestea at this time has 2 queens, 1 zergling and some spore crawlers. Seeing the attack coming right around the Xel'Naga tower IMNestea starts building Roaches and Zerglings but Choya has a 30 or so unit army and Nestea has almost nothing. Choya arrives with an impressive force, starts attacking and sets up a pylon. He force fields off reinforcements on the ramp while he disperses Nestea's troops below the ramp and the drones Nestea brought in. After 4 minutes of the most insane back and forth that looks perilous for Nestea he finally gets enough roaches and zerglings to push the attack and Choya gg's. It was an incredible comeback for Nestea that no one saw coming as everyone thought the 4 gate trick build of Choya that caught Nestea off guard would finish him.

Game 2 is on Lost Temple and has Nestea at the 6 o'clock and Choya at the 12 o'clock. Both players go with a fast expansion build and Choya techs to phoenix at the same time. Seeing the Stargate and several Phoenix while building with an excellent scouting overlord Nestea builds spores and is once again prepared for an aerial assault. Choya brings in 4 phoenix but is really only able to kill a few drones before retreating. Choya then goes into a gateway plus stargate unit mix while Nestea builds up a Hydralisk zergling army with a few roaches and researches overlord speed and drops. Nestea moves out with his army and Choya spots the overlord/zerg army about halfway across the map. Choya starts to produce units as he hadn't produced many yet due to his wall in in the front of his base. Nestea unloads 5-6 overlords worth of troops in Choya's base while Choya's troops arrive right as the drops begin. Nestea's forces are overwhelming and he is able to kill Choya's troops and take out Choya's main but Choya finally repels it with two colossus and Choya takes the upper left island while Nestea expands to the gold. Nestea tech switches into mutalisks, spots the expansion and Choya gg's.

Game 3 is on Metalopolis and they spawn in close aerial positions on the right side of the map with Nestea in the lower right and Choya in the upper right. Nestea goes with another standard fast expand while Choya does the same while teching to DT's with proxy tech hidden that Nestea doesn't spot. Sensing something is up as he has scouting on the main but doesn't see anything major happening Nestea builds a spore and two spines at his ramp. Choya brings in two DT's but is spotted by the spore and kill maybe 3-4 drones before dying themselves - careless play by Choya. Choya expands to a third though and holds Nestea to two bases with his other DT's running around the map. Nestea goes with drop tech and ling/hydra again. Nestea ends up dropping Choya's main again and this time Choya has even less notice. The drop overwhelms Choya's main and ends up destroying all of CHoya's production facilities but he rebuilds at his third expo in the top middle. Nestea expands to take a third and is now up 3 base to 2 on Choya. Nestea continues to build Hydralisks and Zerglings and after several minutes of back and forth fighting overwhelms Choya.

IMNestea advances to the round of 4 in superb fashion 3-0'ing ChoyafOu, who most people think to be the weakest player in the round of 8 and more of a trick palyer.

Match 2 is between IMMvp (Terran) and TSL_Trickster (Protoss)
Game 1 is on scrap station and Trickster starts with a fast expansion while MVP goes with some fast marine/bunker/hellion pressure into a 1 base tech build. Trickster holds off the first pestering attack (not a very strong push) relatively easily but does lose 6 or 7 probes and a stalker to a follow-up marine/hellion harass before pushing it out. IMMvp builds up until he has a strong marine, marauder army with raven and banshee support for PDD (point defense drone) and DPS. IMMvp then destroys the rocks between the two bases and brings all of his SCV's as well to push in on Trickster. Trickster has 4 or 5 of each zealots, stalkers and sentries and 1 immortal but quickly retreats from the all in attack of IMMvp. Trickster backs up to his expansion to try to bring in probe support and warp in several zealots but is still unable to overcome the Terran army and gg's.

Game 2 is on Xel'Naga caverns with Mvp in the top spawn and Trickster spawning at the bottom. Trickster again goes with a relatively fast expansion. Mvp tries to harass the expo with 2 blue flame hellions while dropping in the main with 2 others. Trickster pushes off the hellions at the front and then has a brilliant combination of sentry force fields and zealot warp ins to trap the hellions in the back and only lose 1 probe - brilliant micro. Mvp builds up another army similar to that of game 1 - banshees, ravens, marines, marauders but this time with blue flame hellions as well and one medivac. Mvp also adds in his blue scv's for another all in. Trickster can't bring in his probes with the blue flame hellions and once again gg's to a really strong stim timing push by the Terran player.

Game 3 is on Sharkuas Plateau with both players spawning in the top positions. Both players go with a relatively fast expansion build. Mvp scouts over to Trickster's base with two marines, a marauder and an SCV. He sees the expo and builds a bunker and ends up killing a completely unfair amount of probes and units of Trickster before finally getting pushes out. Mvp is way ahead in the game at this point with about a 10-15 scv advantage on a protoss player and expands to a third base, the lower left main. Mvp expands to a third base while Trickster builds up for a 6 gate 1 base all in. Trickster pushes through the rocks and Mvp sees it in time to bring his units over. Trickster shows some real flare with some excellent sentry force field micro and getting into Mvp's base but runs out of energy and Mvp's three base economy is producing too many units for Tricksters two base to handle. Trickster backs off after several minutes of back and forth but leaves his troops near the outside of Mvp's base. Mvp drops 8 marauders outside of Tricksters natural expo, moves in and stims and takes out Tricksters expo before being pushed out. Mvp then loads up all his troops and medivacs at the top of his base and takes the rock path over. Moves about 10 marauders up the ramp and drops the 6 medivacs worth of troops in the base to avoid force fields. Trickster is overwhelmed and GG's.

IMMvp moves on to the round of 4 with some impressive play but also some all-in cheesy type strats but regardless he still decisively destroys Trickster 3-0. IMMvp is typically not a cheeser though so I didn't lose too much respect for him in this instance.

Interesting fact: IMNestea and IMMvp will face each other in the semi-finals, although sad that means at least 1 IM will move onto the finals. Also, IM smashed through the round of 8 with a combined record of 6-0. This team is definitely on their game.

The GSL Round of 8 day 2 featured some amazing games.

The first games were between LiquidJinro (Terran) and EGIdra (Zerg). Both are foreigners and were so popular that the GomTV livecast was overwhelmed and failing.

Game 1 was on Xel'naga Caverns. This game started with Idra going with a fast expansion and quick roaches and then using his roaches to delay Jinro's expansion and apply a good amount of base pressure, nearly killing a barracks of Jinro. Idra drones up his expansion during this time and then takes a third base a little after Jinro establishes his natural. Idra gets up mutalisks soon after this and is able to do a good amount of harassment killing many of Jinro's SCV's as well as a tech lab on his factory - delaying additional tank construction. Jinro then goes with a Tank, Thor, Marine army composition while Idra goes with a zergling, baneling, Mutalisk army composition. After a few back and forths in the middle Idra establishes his 4th base and is now on 4 base to 3 base - keeping up his 1 base advantage. Idra eventually gets to a population of 200 and then attacks and strings his zerglings and mutalisks all the way from the gold base to the natural expansion of Jinro, killing everything in his wake (except the gold base planetary fortress) and Jinro gg's.

Game 2 is on Metalopolis and they spawn in close positions with Jinro at the 2 o'clock and Idra at the 0 o'clock. Jinro goes with a savvy play of putting 2 bunkers down at the base of Idra's ramp and after completing the bunkers and putting 2 marines inside Idra instantly gg's. Game length was less than 5 minutes.

Game 3 is on Shakuras plateau with Idra in the lower right and Jinro in the lower left. Idra goes with a relatively fast expansion and Jinro does the same. Idra decides to take out the rocks on his side in between the Jinro and himself to be prepared for a push later, but never creeps down the ramp. Idra goes for a third base while on Mutalisk, Zergling Baneling army composition while Jinro decides to slowly push through the lower passage. Jinro pushes in and gets pushed out of Idra's base several times but each time he is seemingly getting more and more ahead as Idra keeps chasing the stimmed marines far off the creep through sieged tanks and turrets, destroying more and more of Idra's banelings, zerglings and mutalisks. Eventualyl Jinro pushes into and kills Idra's main and Idra gg's.

Game 4 is on Jungle Basin. Knowing this is not a good zerg map Idra decides he will 6 pool all in with drones on Jinro. Idra, knowing Jinro's scouting patterns is able to send all of his drones and lings to Jinro's base without being noticed. Jinro, who was just finishing his barracks and halfway through constructing his second barracks gets one marine out who dies and then pulls another marine out and has scv's escort the marine back to his mineral line, staying alive with only 5hp. Idra tries to chase the marine back to the mineral line but it is then discovered that Jinro built a bunker behind his mineral line. Idra tries to destroy the command center but is unable to destroy it in time and Jinro builds another bunker in his mineral line while repairing his command center. Idra realizes his 6 pool hasn't worked and gg's.

Jinro wins the series 3-1 and for the second season straight moves on to the round of 4. Jinro is the only player to reach the round of 4 both last season and this season.

The second set of games on 1-19 were between MarineKingPrime.WE and oGsNada

The first game was on Shakuras plateau with cross position spawns of MarineKing in the upper left and Nada in the lower right. Nada goes with a tech build into expo while MarineKing goes with a fast expo. Nada gets in some good banshee harassment and is ahead in income and unit count just slightly. Nada goes with a standard TvT build of marine/tank while MarineKing goes with his normal build of Marine/Medivac. Marine King gets a good drop in on Nada's expansion killing tons of SCV's and marines before being pushed off but Nada counters with a marine drop in Marine Kings main a couple minutes later. Nada also moves his tank/marine army to the front of marinekings base but just as he is walking through the brush on the middle of the map marine kings larger marine/medivac force catches Nada's main army with his tanks unsieged and rips through his army. Nada continues to take out MarineKing's base while MarineKing floats away several structures and proceeds to Nada's base. Marine King is able to take out Nada's Base while Nada takes out Marine King's base and only flying structures are alive in the corners of the map but MarineKing has a 1000 minerals and a command center and Nada only has 370 minerals and no Command Center. After 20 minutes of scouring the map for each other and not able to kill the flying structures as both palyers only have ground troops Nada attempts to kill off his units as he has a starport and a supply depot left. MarineKing sees this and lands his CC in the opposite corner of the map and starts mining minerals. Nada has now killed off most of his superior army (he had more marines and medivacs than MarineKing as well as tanks and scv's) but is now below MarineKing in terms of unit count. Marine King then kills his units to create supply space, builds an SCV while mining with mules and lands his barracks after building more supply depots and rebuilds his army. Nada gg's after seeing that marineking has a working base now. MarineKing goes up 1-0.

Game 2 is on Lost Temple and in close spawns. Nada goes with a single barracks into reapers for scouting while MarineKing quickly goes with a 2 rax all in push with SCV's. MarineKing shows up at Nada's base with more marines and a load of SCV's while Nada only has 1 marine and 1 reaper. With the reaper dying to scv's due to poor micro and the rest of Nada's forces overwhelmed, Nada gg's. MarineKing goes up 2-0.

Game 3 is on Xel'Naga caverns with Nada spawning on the bottom position and MarineKing in the upper position. MarineKing and Nada go with similar builds and play as in game 1. Nada gets in some banshee harass while on 2 base and MarineKing goes with mass marine/medivac. MarineKing lands a massive 5-8 medivac/marine drop in nada's main and does significant damage but then backs out as Nada's tanks move into good positioning. Nada then goes to the gold base to take it out and marineking draws Nada's force passed the rocks after destroying them. MarineKing then moves his marines around the secret path that leads to Nada's expansion while Nada pushes on MarineKing's main. MarineKing and Nada once again trade bases but Nada saved enough minerals this time for an expansion. Nada expands at MarineKing's natural while MarineKing has lifted off structures all over the map and a command center on the right side. Nada once again has a superior force of tanks, marines and medivacs but marineking has more map control through all of his structures and his higher SCV count. MarineKIng expands at the right base and Nada brings half of his force to take it out while leaving tanks to defend his expansion. Nada forces a lift off at MarineKing's right expo and then de-sieges and right after that MarineKing moves in with a larger marine/medivac army as Nada's forces are split. Nada's forces go down quick as he was un-sieged and with only half his army. Nada then spots starports in the upper left and goes to kill those as he has no detection. MarineKing seeing this relands his expansion and gets it up and running while pressuing Nada's expansion and forcing a lift-off. MarineKing once again forces Nada's army to dwindle down and secures his expansion as he has map control and mobility. MarineKing gets a viking and starts destroying Nada's lifted off base while at the same time destroying the remainder of Nada's army in a battle at the southern base. MarineKing wins 3-0

These games were completely insane as two of the games were insane TvT base trades with the player who looked like he was in a better position losing.

MarineKing and Jinro both move on to face each other in the round of 4.

The round of 4 matches will be

      IMMvp (terran) vs IMNestea (Zerg)

      and

      LiquidJinro (terran) vs MarineKingPrime.WE
