Photon Cannons are the primary static defensive structure of the Protoss Army. In StarCraft 2 Photon Cannons are detectors, and can attack air and ground units. Like all buildings the Photon Cannons need to be powered by Pylons, but are particularly subject to this as attackers will often target a pylon instead of the Photon Cannon as sometimes one Pylon powers multiple Photon Cannons.
