Ten Pool Build Order

The Ten Pool is an aggressive way of attacking your opponent with Zerglings in StarCraft 2. It can also be transitioned out of and into regular strategies much more effectively than a six pool strategy, making it more viable and slightly less cheezy.

[Zerg Build Order]

    • Build drones until you get to 10 drones.
    • At 200 crystals build a spawning pool.
    • Build a drone next and then an overlord.
    • When your spawning pool finishes build 3 (6) zerglings and have them way pointed to your enemies base.
    • Continue to build zerglings and as resources permits build a queen to escalate Zergling/drone building. Also, build additional overlords as necessary.

Scouting Needs:

Optimal Map Conditions:

You will need to know where the other persons base is early. Use your starting overlord for scouting and a drone after the spawning pool is built to scout other bases if the map is larger. You will need to watch out for blockaded entrances.   Small to Medium 2 player Maps; Small to Medium 4 player Maps. Preferably large or larger hard to block ramps.

Vs Terran:

Vs Protoss:

Vs Zerg:

Typically bad because a small ramp can easily be blockaded by a Terran. If it's a large ramp you might have a chance.   Good but watch out for choked off entrances. Zerglings need to surround zealots to be effective.   Good but you need to hit them quickly. If you allow time for a queen to come out or spine crawlers to be built you will not be able to push in.

What to Watch out For:

Early base blockades. Enemy units kiting your zerglings away from their drone line or production facilities.

Tips for Pulling off the Attack:

You will want to hit the worker line quickly to stop their mineral mining. Also, if they happen to get units out attack and surround them with your zerglings quickly before going back to attack their worker line. A good strategy is to go in with your first 6 to 8 zerglings and then follow up a few minutes later with 10-14 more zerglings as opposed to constantly streaming in small numbers of reinforcements.

Transitioning out of this Strategy:

If your initial attack fails you will need to pick one of two options. If the attack is close to working you can wait and bring in 10 to 14 more zerglings a minute later (use queen spawn broodling), however if the attack fails without much economic harassment you may want to quickly build more drones and switch to a defensive stance as you will be behind in economy. This build allows you to recover if the initial attack fails but your economy will be lacking slightly.
